Health Camp 2K22
The two days of health education and medical camp to the people at mission centre Mynapadar, Similimunda and Karshahandi villages of Jharigoan block Odisha held on 3rd and 4th October 2022.The camp was organised by Bethany Mission Mandiram under the guidance of Mission Mandiram Superior Rev Fr.Alex Michael OIC and Rev Fr. Henry Sam OIC for the welfare and health guidance of the villagers. For the Medical camp 5 nursing students (Manna Elizabeth John, Rinsu Anna Roy, Nandana Manoj, Blessy Abraham, Ayushma Joseph) were assigned for assisting the physician by Rev Fr John Elias OIC Director Bethany College of nursing.Bethany Clinic Nuaguda is managed by Sr AnnJose SIC,provided all necessary needs,Sr. Annjose SIC guided the nursing students and assisted the physician.
The journey to Odisha started on 2nd October and reached the destiny at evening.The accomodation of the nursing students were at Bethany Convent for all three days.
On 3rd October 2022, first we visited the village called Mynapadar. Dr Michael John and Dr Surobhit Nayak joined with the team for the treatment and check up. 63 patients received treatment in the medical checkup and along with treatment health education class on the topics: Personal Hygiene,Protein Energy Malnutrition,Antenatal Education,Drug Addiction,Sex Education,Balanced Diet, Communicable Disease,Disease Transmission,Anemia was conducted for the villagers. It was a refreshing informative session for them. Pinguecula, cataract, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease were the common disease conditions diagnosed from specific village. The camp ended at 1.00pm.
On the same day afternoon the team went to the next village called Similimunda. .The health education classes were delivered in Odia language. The students conducted a program for giving certain knowledge about basic hygiene. Gastritis, Hypertension, Anemia were the main disease condition diagnosed the village.52 were treated in the village.The camp at Similimunda ended at 6:00pm.
An Evaluation session was arranged where everyone shared their experience of the first day of the camp.Total of 115 villagers came for the first day of health camp.
The second day 4th October 2022 the health camp was held in Bethany Clinic Nuaguda, Karshahandi from 9:00am to 6:00pm. Dr Michael John joined for the check up and treatment. Sr Annjose SIC and student nurses were assisted the doctor for the treatment. On the other side health education for the people was given by student nurse (Ayushma Joseph). Hypertension, diabetes mellitus, pneumonia, cataract, myopia, gastritis are the disease condition were diagnosed common diseases in the village. 201 villagers were consulted by the doctor on the second day.
There was an evaluation session at the end of the day among the father's, sisters, aspirants and student nurses was headed by Rev Fr Alex Michael OIC mission incharge of Karshahandi. Total number of 316 villagers were diagnosed,treated, given medicines and took part of the Awareness Classes from the two days of the health camp. At the end of the camp the student nurses and college were awarded with certificate.The camp become a grant success by the guidance of Rev Fr Alex Michael OIC, Rev Fr Henry Sam OIC and Rev Fr John Elias OIC. A special thanks to Sr Sanadana SIC (superior of Bethany convent Nuaguda) and community for their support and guidance.
As a suggestion Fr.Henry had mentioned that providing nursing students for the Health education and Health camp at every year from the College would be a great step taken from Bethany College of Nursing, Bhilai.
